Justin Fields lands with Bears in 2021 NFL Draft; football world reacts to selection

There’s a new Monster of the Midway.

After months of speculation, unfair analysis and mercurial draft stock, Justin Fields is heading to the Bears after being selected 11th overall by them in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Bears, who were originally slated to pick No. 20, traded a 2022 first-round pick and more to the Giants for the No. 11 pick. Fields was expected to go in the top 10, and a short slide resulted in Chicago securing its presumed long-term answer at quarterback.

The Ohio State QB was put through the ringer leading up to this year’s draft. At first, he was slated to be the No. 2 quarterback, but he eventually was overtaken by BYU’s Zach Wilson (No. 2, Jets) and Trey Lance (No. 3, 49ers) before finally hearing his name called.

Fields was at home with friends and family when his name was announced and one the 2021 NFL Draft’s biggest mysteries was solved.

Though the Bears signed free-agent QB Andy Dalton, presumably to start, they will have quite a choice to make should Fields look ready during training camp.
