Tottenham news: Joe Rodon eyes Ligue 1 switch as Qatar World Cup edges closer

The deal, according to the Daily Mail, is said to include a permanent purchase option worth around £18million.

Rodon, who is a Welsh international, is desperate to play regular first-team football ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The 24-year-old played the full 90 minutes in June as Wales beat Ukraine 1-0 to seal their spot in the tournament for the first time since 1958.

When it comes to playing time at Tottenham, the defender has struggled having made three Premier League appearances last season.

During his two years in North London, the player has made a total of 24 outings across all competitions.

Rodon did not feature in Tottenham’s pre-season games in South Korea, but did come on for 24 minutes during the 2-1 victory over Rangers at Ibrox.

The Welsh star joined Spurs from Swansea after the Premier League club splashed £11million on his signature back in 2020.

During his time with the Swans, Rodon made 54 appearances across all competitions and featured prominently in the Championship.

The centre-back made his international debut back in 2019 as Wales took on Azerbaijan in a Euro 2020 qualifier.

Wales qualified for the tournament and Rodon was part of the squad which got out of the group but faced elimination in the round-of-16 stage.
